Enefit to replace Elmo chargers by the end of 2024
Enefit is upgrading its public electric vehicle (EV) charging network, gradually replacing all Elmo chargers installed between 2011 and 2013 that have CHAdeMO connectors by the end of 2024. CHAdeMO charging capability will remain in locations where usage statistics show the highest demand for vehicles using this standard.
"As of next year, the manufacturer of the Elmo chargers will cease software support and platform development. Therefore, we will replace all Elmo chargers with CHAdeMO connectors installed between 2011 and 2013 by the end of 2024. However, we will retain CHAdeMO charging options at sites with the highest usage for cars compatible with this standard," said Viljar Kont, Head of E-Mobility Solutions at Enefit Estonia. Detailed locations can be found at the end of this blog post.
Nine out of ten cars use the CCS charging standard
Since last summer, Enefit has been replacing the chargers in the Elmo network, and the upgrades will be completed by the end of this year. According to Viljar Kont, statistics show a decline in the use of CHAdeMO chargers. “Most car manufacturers produce electric vehicles for our market that are compatible with the European CCS charging standard. Currently, approximately 10% of all registered electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles in Estonia are compatible with the CHAdeMO and Type 2 connectors. The remaining 90% of electric vehicles are compatible with CCS and Type 2 connectors,” said Kont.
Up-to-date charging information via the map
“Charger replacements are currently underway, so before heading to your usual charging location, please check if a charger with a CHAdeMO connector is still available,” Kont advised. The most up-to-date real-time charging information is available in the Enefit Volt app and on the public charging network map.
More affordable charging options
For more convenient journeys, Enefit Volt customers can now charge their vehicles at all 50 kW chargers for a reduced price of €0.32/kWh, starting from 23rd September.
For home charging, customers can purchase a home charger with 0% interest until the end of 2024.
With over 200 chargers, Enefit Volt operates the largest public EV charging network in Estonia. We aim to provide as many EV users as possible with worry-free mileage, which is why we continuously develop our network. Today, the network spans over 450 chargers, reaching from Estonia to the German border. All chargers across the Baltics and Poland can be easily accessed through the Enefit Volt charging app.
